In this paper, we have discussed housing problems chiefly citing practical cases. Several problems requiring a solution in terms of house remodeling have been clarified as follows: (1) Can older adults and their family efficiently resolve their intention about house remodeling?, (2) From where can the funds for remodeling be provided?, (3) Whom should they consult about house remodeling?, (4) How can they select equipment that meets the older adult's needs. 2. We investigated three model houses. All provide housing in which people can gain the experience of self-care activities first hand. 3. An open session on house remodeling was held. The session indicated that a place in which wecan experience living and operating various equipment is needed. 4. The second and the third forums on housing were held inviting an occupational therapist and an architect, respectively. It was emphasized that house planning should be made from the stand-point of the persons living in the house. 5. As a possible solution to the above-mentioned problems, we propose a model house named the TORAI house. TORAI means \"try\" in English.
