 note = {1998年12月、私たちはアメリカミネソタ州にあるミネソタ大学看護学部を訪問した。その目的は、現在のアメリカのマネージド・ケアをはじめとした医療費抑制下での看護教育の実情を知るためである。看護事情について言えば、在院日数の短縮化で、入院は急性期にある患者に限られ、短時間に質の高い看護が要求される。病院では、コスト削減のために看護婦・看護士は解雇され、かわりに看護補助者が登用されるようになった。また、在院日数の短縮化で在宅医療に関わる看護へのニーズが高まっている。この状況は看護教育に以下の課題を投げかける。臨床実習環境および指導を調整する教員の役割の重要性、学内での確実な技術の習得、地域における看護力要求に対する地域看護教育のいっそうの充実である。日本においても、今後の医療制度の変革を見据えた看護教育プログラムの準備が必要であろう。, In December 1998, we visited the School of Nursing, the University of Minnesota, to observe the current status in nursing education for undergraduates in the U.S. Wefocused on the challenging issues and future strategies in undergraduate nursing education under the pressure of healthcare cost containment, the managed care context, and the healthcare reform that may greatly impact on the nursing education. As a result of drastic shorter length of stay, inpatient care has been limited to only acute care, and higher quality of nursing is required within a shorter period of stay. Most of the hospitals tend to lay off more registered nurses and to employ more unlicensed workers or ancillary nurses for the reduction of cost. The shorter length of stay has also brought higher needs in home care nursing. The current health care status in the U.S. has the following implications in nursing education: the importance of the faculty's role in coordinating the clinical nursing practicum, including the educational environment and instructions for students; the reinforcement of skills laboratory classes for students to learn nursing skills thoroughly; and the expansion of the education in community health nursing in order to meet the professional and work force demands in the community. It is highly recommended to prepare appropriate educational programs in nursing in Japan as envisioning the future health care reform in this country.},
